StoneWise

Privacy Policy

StoneWise teaches the game of Go. This page says exactly what it stores about you, what it sends to its AI provider, and how to delete all of it.

Effective 7 September 2026

Who runs StoneWise

StoneWise is run by Zahid Husain, an individual developer in the United States, and is the operator of this service. Contact: support@zsquared.uk.

You must be 13 or over

StoneWise is not for children under 13, and no account is created for one. Before you can sign up, the app asks for your birth month and year. That answer is checked on your device and then discarded: it is never sent to us and never stored anywhere.

If you are under 13, nothing happens next. No account, no email address, no record. If you are 13 or over, the only thing kept is the date on which you confirmed it, and only after you sign in.

If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email support@zsquared.uk and it will be deleted.

What is stored

An account is required, because everything StoneWise does is tied to your own progress. Signing in creates one record of you, and using the app adds to it.

AccountYour email address, an account identifier from our sign-in provider, and your time zone. Your time zone decides when a day rolls over for daily review, nothing else.
AgeThe date you confirmed you are 13 or over. Not your birthday — that is checked on your device and never sent.
LearningWhich lessons you have started or finished, which puzzles you have attempted and whether you solved them, and a per-concept review schedule.
RatingA skill estimate used to choose puzzles near your level.
GamesThe moves of games you play against the built-in opponent, any review of them, and the one takeaway you name at the end.
TutorThe questions you type to the tutor, its answers, and the board position each message was asked about.

Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared for advertising. StoneWise has no social features: nothing you do is visible to another user.

Tracking, and Do Not Track

No third party collects information about your activity across other websites or apps through StoneWise. There are no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs and no third-party trackers in the app or on this site.

Do Not Track. StoneWise does not track you across other websites or apps, so a Do Not Track signal has nothing here to switch off. We do not respond to those signals, because we do not do the tracking they exist to stop.

One thing worth naming rather than glossing: the pages on this website load their typefaces from Google Fonts, so opening them makes a request to Google that reveals your IP address. It is not used to track you across sites, and the app itself makes no such request.

The tutor, and what reaches Anthropic

The tutor is artificial intelligence, not a person. Answers are generated by a Claude model from Anthropic, which processes them on our behalf.

When you ask the tutor a question, what is sent to Anthropic is: your typed question, the board position and move list you are asking about, facts our Go engine has computed about that position, which lesson or puzzle step you are on and what you just tried, and the earlier messages in that same conversation.

Your email address, your name and your account identifier are not sent. Anthropic receives the board and the conversation, not who you are.

Anthropic processes this under its Commercial Terms of Service and Data Processing Addendum, which say Anthropic may not train its models on this content. Anthropic deletes these inputs and outputs from its own systems within 30 days, and can keep them longer only where it must to enforce its usage policy or comply with law.

The tutor can be wrong. It is a study aid, not an authority, and you should not rely on it for anything outside learning Go.

You can decline the tutor and keep the rest of the app. Lessons, puzzles, games and review all work without it. If you would like the tutor conversations already stored on your account removed without deleting the account itself, email support@zsquared.uk.

Who else handles your data

Each of these acts as a processor for StoneWise under the data-processing terms linked above: they may use your data to provide their service to us, and not for their own purposes. Each is bound to protect it to the standard set out in this policy.

Server logs record the address a request came from and the page requested. They live with the running service, are used for diagnosing faults, and are not built into a profile of you.

Why we hold it

To run the service you signed up for: to remember where you are in the curriculum, to choose puzzles near your level, to keep your games, and to answer when you ask the tutor a question.

How long it is kept

Your data is kept while your account exists. Delete your account and it is removed from StoneWise. Content already sent to Anthropic is deleted on their own 30-day cycle described above, which deleting your account does not accelerate.

Deleting your account

In the app, open You and choose to delete your account. You will be asked to type a confirmation. This removes your account and everything listed above, including your sign-in identity, and it cannot be undone.

If you would rather it were done for you, email support@zsquared.uk from the address on the account.

Reviewing, correcting and deleting your data

You can ask for a copy of what StoneWise holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email support@zsquared.uk and you will get a reply within 30 days. This is offered to everyone, wherever you live, rather than because a particular law requires it.

Nevada residents: StoneWise does not sell your information and never has. The designated request address for a verified request under NRS 603A.345 that we not sell it is support@zsquared.uk.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date above changes and the new version appears here before it takes effect.
